Wood/Metal Framing for Revit: The most significant enhancements of 2020

During the past year, we implemented over 40 updates to our Wood Framing and Metal Framing BIM software for designing walls, floors, and roofs of prefabricated timber and light-gauge steel-framed buildings in Revit®.

These updates include new features, enhanced sample families, and requests made by clients that benefit many of our users. In the spirit of sharing BIM advances, we walk through over 30 of them now in the hopes that this summary will be of use to not only current users but also Revit users generally and those who may be considering making the switch over to a BIM workflow for framing design.

We’ve put a lot of work into our Wood Framing and Metal Framing BIM software over the past year to make sure it continues advancing to meet the needs of architects and structural engineers around the world. Click a topic in the list below to auto-scroll down for more about it.

By the way, we also hosted this webinar in June 2021 that goes over most of the features enumerated below.

How to make QR/barcodes for precast concrete elements in Revit [VIDEO]

QR codes and barcodes surround us in everyday life – when shopping in the grocery store, receiving packages at home, or giving a blood test sample at the doctor’s office. Their purpose is to transfer data about an item, so you can track, check, or use it down the road in other processes. Such codes are used in a variety of situations in the AEC industry too, and precast is no exception.

A few months ago we announced that our Sort Mark Revit add-on lets you generate QR/barcodes with any information from the model. Sort Mark creates QR or barcodes as images and assigns them to each element, to the selected Image type parameter.

Sort Mark is an included tool in AGACAD’s Precast Concrete design software, so that means that our Precast users can make codes in a jiffy too. Here’s how! Written instructions follow the video below.

QR/Barcode Generator added to Sort Mark Revit Tool [NEW FEATURE]

Would you like to generate QR codes or barcodes that can be placed on your shop drawings in Autodesk Revit? We recently added a new feature to our Sort Mark tool for Revit that allows you to do exactly that.

One of our T4R Add-ons, Sort Mark is a powerful plug-in that automates sorting and numbering in Revit. In addition to renumbering elements the way you want, it can also detect and renumber grids, determine swing direction and orientation of doors, recalculate shared coordinates, and more.

In this post, we’ll show how to generate QR and barcodes using Sort Mark. This feature was something we had been thinking about for some time, especially after a client requested it. Since you can place anything you need into that QR/barcode, the possibilities are vast, as it can ensure better quality control, enhance collaboration between teams, or speed up the manufacturing process.

Most Important Updates for Precast Concrete of the Past Revit Year

Where do we get the ideas for continually improving our BIM Solution for designing precast in Revit? From top professionals around the world. We enthusiastically welcome user requests and build their ideas into the software to make the life of structural engineers, drafters, and modelers easier.

From Finland to Florida, from California and Canada over to the Netherlands and Norway, from India to Illinois, from Sweden and Estonia down to Australia — users send in their requests for software updates that would make their work smoother and more efficient. That’s where the action’s at. User-feedback helps us continually enhance Precast Concrete with new features that others in the precast design industry can benefit from as well.

So, at the close of Revit Year 2021 and the outset of 2022, here is a summary of all the features that were added to our Precast Concrete BIM Solution during the past year. We go through each of the tools that comprise Precast Concrete and look at the improvements that were made to each.

The main module of AGACAD's Revit® application Smart Browser: BIM Manager

We recently introduced the causes that encouraged us to focus on making Smart Browser more team-oriented, more modular. Now let’s cover the main module of Smart Browser: BIM MANAGER.

This module consists of two tools: Smart Browser Manage and BIM Tree Manager. The BIM MANAGER module has the fullest functionality, starting from company library creation and ending with real-time extensive management of all elements present in an active Autodesk® Revit® project. BIM MANAGER saves weeks of work when it comes to Revit family library creation and full control of all family parameters inside created libraries and in ongoing projects. Revit users with the BIM MANAGER module can control how a company library is seen and whether it is accessible to other project participants.
