How to prepare and use Revit® schedule tables in Smart Assemblies

Sometimes our clients have questions about how to use Schedule templates and how to get the best results using Revit® application Smart Assemblies. I hope this blog post will answer these questions and let you find the best workflow for Revit 2016 and Revit 2017 easier as well as explain differences between these two versions.

So let’s start learning how to prepare and use Revit schedule tables with Smart Assemblies:

  1. Create Schedule in Revit as usually with information you need.
  2. Create View Template from Schedule view and name it.
  3. Assign Schedule View Template to the Schedule through the Properties window.
(Note: in Revit 2016 schedule template you can save only Appearance settings, but in Revit 2017 – all settings like Filters, Sorting, Formatting and Appearance). Picture below is from Revit 2016 version.
  4. Use this Schedule in Smart Assembly Configurations.

  5. Create an Assembly. Now your schedule will have the same settings as Revit schedule available in your Revit version.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Using BIM solution Smart Assemblies in Revit 2016 you cannot copy calculated value from Schedule Template to the Assembly Schedule.

In Revit 2017 you can copy all Schedule Template settings including calculated value.
