How to Add New Framing Type to the Project Working with Metal Framing Software

Do you know what to do, when you need to make new framing type of metal profiles for Metal Framing Floor+ or Metal Framing Wall+? Is it possible? Yes, of course. Metal Framing Floor+ and Metal Framing Wall+ users can work with various profiles and profile sizes that they could need in their Revit projects.

There are two ways of adding new type to your project:

  1. you can find new types in the default library that we provide together with a product;
  2. you can create a new family type by yourself.

Our team’s created Metal Framing products have functionality that loads sample family types, but it loads not all of them. This functionality is mostly for the trial users or beginners. If it’s not enough, I’ll explain how you can find and add a new family type from our developed Metal Framing library. Please make following steps: select Insert → Load Family → Floor+ M → Imperial or Metric Library → Library → select a family, for example I_MF Stud-Joist.rfa:

In this library you will find all possible types but you will be able to load only the required one:

Then you will be able to select this new type in Metal Framing Floor+ “Framing Configuration”:

You can also create a new framing element type in your project browser. Please extend Structural Framing category and find I_MF Stud-Joist. Here you can create the new type:

Metal frames have the type parameter “d” (depth of the profile) which should be equal to the core layer depth from a wall:

You can save improved families for the future projects in the Metal Framing Floor+, Metal Framing Wall+ Metric or Imperial library. The default path is:

By the way, sometimes Metal Framing Floor+ users can not generate any type of flooring and they get the message:

What to do in such case? As I have mentioned above, metal profiles must have a type with parameter “d” (depth) that must be equal to the core layer from the wall. You have to load required type from the default library or create the new type and select it in the Framing Configurations.

Also you can switch OFF setting “Define Depth (h,d) by layer Thickness” in Framing Configurations. Still, this is not recommended. It’s better to have types that suite the wall layer thickness:
